Gardening Assessment
- Soil Evaluation
- This is the first step to ensuring plants are grown and maintained healthily and successfully.
- It enables us to plan appropriately for new planting
- We can improve soil structure if and when required.
- Climate familiarisation
- A garden environment affects what plants will grow and thrive and whereabouts within the garden.
- Microclimates such as sheltered walls, dry shaded areas under trees and areas exposed to the elements are explored.
- The aspect is reviewed, including the amount of sunlight each area receives and when.
- Plant Review & Cataloguing
- Plants have differing needs so this is an important first step to identify a maintenance program for this; when they need feeding, pruning, etc
- Plants in need of rejuvenation are assessed and tackled; pruning is carried out as appropriate
- Pest & Disease Assessment
- Plants are reviewed for evidence of pest and disease, which is followed by a program of eradication and/or control.
- Initial Tidying
- The initial steps always involve a review of the general state of the garden.
- Beds are weeded and cleared; edges re-defined.
- Paths and driveways are swept and cleared of weeds, leaves, rubbish; other unwanted materials are gathered up.
- Lawns and verges are cleared and will be mowed as required (at the appropriate time of year).
- Hedges are assessed and trimmed as required (at the appropriate time of year).
- Other gardening tasks may also be undertaken, as listed in the Gardening & Maintenance section.
